On March 10th, according to foreign media reports, the Dutch labor union announced that employees at chip manufacturer NXP in the Netherlands will hold a strike on March 12th, demanding a 9% salary increase!
The union stated that workers at NXP's factory in Nijmegen, located in the eastern part of the Netherlands, will go on a 24-hour strike. If NXP fails to meet the workers' demands, other factories may also take similar actions. It is reported that NXP employees are requesting a 9% pay increase and bonuses, while the company is only offering a 2.5% salary raise.
NXP Semiconductors announced strong fourth-quarter earnings performance in early February, surpassing Wall Street's predictions for profitability and revenue. The increase was enough to boost the company's stock price in after-hours trading, despite the mixed guidance provided for this quarter. Investors remain optimistic about its prospects. For the fiscal year 2023, NXP achieved a net profit of $2.79 billion, with a slight 1% increase in total revenue, reaching $13.28 billion.
Kurt, the President, and CEO of NXP, stated that the company's performance exceeded the midpoint of its own guidance range, concluding a year of "solid execution," reflecting its strong operational performance and stable gross margins. The CEO stated, "We are achieving a soft landing by managing our controlable aspects, particularly limiting over-shipment to customers."
Like most chip manufacturers, NXP sells a wide range of processor products to customers in various industries. However, it is best known for its automotive chips, which support everything from in-vehicle infotainment systems to tire pressure monitoring systems and vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Its other businesses include chips for identification, wired and wireless infrastructure, consumer, mobile, and computing applications.
