Samsung Electronics employees stage protest!
Latest company news about Samsung Electronics employees stage protest!

May 26th News: According to South Korean media reports, over 2,000 employees of Samsung held a large-scale protest in Seoul, demanding a raise in wages!

According to reports, the Samsung Electronics nationwide labor union raised the slogan, "We demand an end to the suppression of the union, not a 200% bonus measure," and participants held banners saying "Stop suppressing the union" and "Respect the union."

At the beginning of the rally, union members held banners with the words "Respect Workers" and "Stop Oppressing the Union" and chanted slogans under the leadership of the union's president. It is estimated that over 2,200 union members participated in this rally.

Subsequently, the union president, Son Yoo-mok, said in a large speech, "We have gathered the will of 30,000 union members and held our first rally in front of the Suwon headquarters. We must express our protest to Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, who holds actual power in Samsung. He said, "The employees' efforts have not been rewarded."

Son Yoo-mok claimed that the management also halted discussions about employee vacations. "The company should keep its promises and improve vacation policies," Son Yoo-mok said. "We demand a dialogue with the vice chairman."

Samsung Electronics had promised to end practices that hinder the development of organized labor in 2020. Since then, the number of union members has rapidly increased, and Chairman Lee Jae-yong publicly apologized for the scandal involving the destruction of union strategies, announcing the abandonment of the concept of "no union."

Although Samsung Electronics has decided to raise salaries by 5.1% this year, union members still hope to increase annual leave by one day and implement a more transparent performance-based bonus system.

Negotiations between the union and the company resumed on May 21st, with the main negotiations planned for May 28th. Samsung Electronics stated in a statement that it will sincerely discuss with the union.

Union officials pointed out that younger employees are increasingly recognizing the role of unions in creating a fairer workplace, while some older employees are concerned that unions may affect work efficiency.
