Latest company news about Pure Blood HarmonyOS Launches Public Beta! Supply Chain: Mate70 Components Have Started Shipping

On the afternoon of September 24, during Huawei's autumn full-scene launch event, Yu Chengdong, Huawei's Executive Director, Chairman of the Terminal BG, and Chairman of the Smart Car Solutions BU, announced that HarmonyOS NEXT will start public testing on October 8. This system is viewed as a key move by Huawei to cut ties with Android, using a self-developed architecture.

According to reports from several mobile component suppliers to Yicai, some components for Huawei's next flagship phone, the Mate70, have begun shipping. "Our production line started mass production before the Mid-Autumn Festival. The internal news (for the phone) is that it will launch in November; optimistically, there could be new updates by the end of October," said a core supplier to Huawei.

Market signals indicate that the commercial use of Pure Blood HarmonyOS is entering the final "sprint" stage. Stocks associated with the HarmonyOS concept, such as Changshan Beiming, Runhe Software, and Kelong Software, have experienced a wave of excitement in the capital market.

However, compared to the market's excitement, the atmosphere within Huawei is more "calm." According to informed sources, the final stages involve ongoing adjustments between HarmonyOS and leading domestic applications, while hardware adaptation for devices including phones and PCs is also progressing intensively. "Many people have lost the concept of taking a holiday; meetings have been going on until dawn," an insider reported.

Previously, Huawei's Vice Chairman and rotating Chairman Xu Zhijun stated in the first quarter of this year that Huawei hopes to launch the Mate70 series with the "Pure Blood Harmony" operating system.

To meet this timeline, both hardware and software must stay on track.

An internal source indicated, "The ideal scenario is that the Mate70 can launch with the Pure Blood Harmony system, but the current pace is urgent. Internally, we hope for a gradual approach to achieve a good outcome."

According to Huawei's latest data, over 10,000 applications and meta-services are now available on the HarmonyOS NEXT app market, satisfying 99.9% of consumer usage time.

From the perspective of key applications, in mid-June this year, sources close to Tencent indicated that several products, including WeChat, are undergoing development adaptations and technical communications for HarmonyOS. Additionally, applications from Alibaba, such as Ant Group, DingTalk, and Alipay, have joined the native Harmony ecosystem.

On the hardware side, in addition to strengthening domestic supply chain cooperation, sources from the supply chain indicate that Huawei's high-end phone assembly lines are also expanding production. However, these reports have not been officially confirmed by Huawei.

"HarmonyOS is a new life that is striving to grow. We have traversed the path that foreign operating systems have developed over more than a decade in just one year; this has never happened before in history, and the challenges are immense," Yu Chengdong stated. The first models to participate in the public beta will include the Huawei Mate 60 series, Huawei Mate X5 series, and Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2-inch series.

Additionally, during the recent delivery ceremony for Huawei's foldable phones, Yu Chengdong mentioned that due to the impact of sanctions, the current Huawei PCs may be the last batch of laptops running Windows, with future products featuring HarmonyOS.

"We can use non-American components because we have achieved complete replacement. The U.S. sanctions have led to this outcome; our previous extensive use of U.S. components has been significantly reduced, and we can even fully replace them," Yu Chengdong said.

As Huawei's mobile and PC businesses gradually transition to "Pure Blood HarmonyOS," the system's market share is expected to continue rising.

According to the latest statistics released by research firm Counterpoint, HarmonyOS reached a global market share of 4% in Q1 2024. In the Chinese market, HarmonyOS has surpassed iOS for the first time, becoming the second-largest operating system. Additionally, the 5G penetration rate of HarmonyOS increased from 9% in Q1 2023 to 50%.
