According to the renowned market research firm N.T.Information, they have released the global top ten leading PCB (Printed Circuit Board) manufacturers' rankings for 2021 and 2022. In 2021 and 2022, Taiwanese companies performed impressively, with five companies making it into the top ten. Among them, Unimicron, Shennan Circuits, Huatong, Junda, and Nanya Electric were listed. Unimicron retained its position as the world's largest PCB manufacturer. However, HannStar Board dropped out of the top ten, falling to 13th place, while Nanya Electric entered the list and secured the eighth position. In terms of revenue exceeding 100 million USD, Mainland China had the highest number of companies with 64, followed by Taiwan with 27, Japan with 21, South Korea with 14, the United States with 5, Europe with 5, and Southeast Asia with 3.
N.T.Information's CEO, Zhongyuan Jiexiong, stated that in 2022, a total of 139 PCB manufacturers worldwide had revenue exceeding 100 million USD, a decrease of seven companies compared to 2021. However, the number of PCB manufacturers with revenue exceeding 1 billion USD increased to 28, an increase of three compared to 2021. If these 139 companies are divided into six blocks based on their rankings (1-25, 26-50, 51-75, 76-100, 101-125, and 126-139), their annual revenue growth rates were 11.6%, 8.6%, 1.8%, 4.5%, -5.6%, and -2.3%, respectively. This data indicates a trend of "the bigger ones getting bigger." The "winners" are accelerating their growth, while the "followers" are experiencing slower momentum or even entering a state of decline.
N.T.Information estimates that the global PCB output value reached 97.5 billion USD in 2022, representing a growth of 6.7% compared to 2021. In terms of market share, Taiwanese PCB manufacturers still hold the top position with 31.97%, followed closely by Mainland Chinese companies with 31.52%. Japan accounts for 15.9% and South Korea for 10.67%.
Expanding the scope to the top 25 PCB manufacturers globally, the number of Taiwanese companies on the list increased from 5 to 9. HannStar Board, Jing-Sheng, Nan Ya PCB, and T.C.C. Technology all made the list. Compared to the rankings in 2021, Nanya Electric replaced HannStar Board and entered the top ten.
The highlight of the global PCB industry in 2022 was IC substrates, which accounted for around 20% of the overall PCB market (excluding assembly revenue, approximately 88 billion USD). With the exception of companies in the CPU and other application areas, which were impacted by high inventory in the second half of 2022, the remaining companies showed growth. IC substrate manufacturers are also actively investing in the future, with an estimated investment scale of 30 billion USD. When these investments are translated into production, the share of IC substrates in the PCB market is expected to rise to 25%. The global IC substrate output value is projected to reach 22 billion USD by 2025.
